thumbnail Hello,

Real Madrid should be judged on their own merits, according to the club's custodian...

Iker Casillas does not think that constantly comparing Real Madrid's new look team with Barcelona helps anyone. Instead, he thinks each side should be judged on their own merits.

The Spain international goalkeeper is tired of constantly being asked about the Blaugrana's performances and how Los Merengues will do against them this term, and he has sought to end that line of questioning.

After Barca's treble winning success last term, the onus is on Madrid to turn things around after spending approximately €250 million this summer, but Casillas thinks that the two teams are not alike.

"We shouldn’t make comparisons with Barcelona. They had an amazing campaign, winning the three titles and playing good football," he was quoted as saying by the club's official website.

"But we must take things easy, do what we’ve got to do and take one step at a time. Our start to the season has been as good as it gets.

"Barcelona are in the same shape as last season. A draw against Internazionale seemed plausible because it was an away game. They had chances to score, they have had a good start to the season and they will fight for every title once more.

"We must counterbalance them because they led every competition last year."

The Champions League final is in the Santiago Bernabeu this season and that brings with it added pressure on the hosting team, Casillas believes.

"We feel more pressure than the rest because the final will be held here, but we can't afford to obsess about it," he continued.

"We have to perform well in the group stages. It's been five years since we last reached farther than the last 16."
