Lionel Messi has admitted that he would like to win the Ballon d'Or. The Argentine star has finished in the top three for the past two seasons, with his reputation at Barcelona growing all that time.
Last term he was instrumental in the Blaugrana's unprecedented treble success and has been widely tipped to win the France Football gong.
Messi explained that nearly all the Barca players should be rewarded, but he hopes he can come out on top.
"I would like to win [the Ballon d'Or]," he told L'Equipe TV. "I think that any Barca player would deserve the award this season.
"I am well placed because two years ago I finished third, last year I was second, so this year I hope to be first."
A repeat performance by Barcelona will be what the club's fans are hoping for, but Messi recognised that if the team does not play the same throughout the campaign it will be tough.
"We need to wait a bit. If we do not do what we did last season then we cannot be considered favourites [for the Champions League]. It is very difficult because everyone wants this trophy," he continued.
"The same teams will be with us, like Real Madrid."
