The Argentinian, whose playing career spanned 23 years, spoke to the club's website ahead of their Champions League opener away to FC Zurich.
"We have a squad with great quality. If we can maintain that fighting spirit that we have shown in the early stages, we will have a team that can win many titles," commented the man known as 'Saeta Rubia', the 'blonde arrow'.
The legend was no stranger to success in his time, as during an illustrious eleven year career at Madrid he won eight league titles and was an integral part of the Blancos side that captured the first five European Cup crowns, starting in 1955/56.
The prolific marksman scored 266 goals in 342 appearances for Madrid in all competitions, including 50 in 60 European games, and finished as Pichichi five times in six seasons.
