The Franck Ribery transfer saga took another unexpected twist today with the player announcing that he would consider renewing his contract with Bayern Munich and insisted that he is enjoying working with Louis van Gaal.
Ribery was benched for the first few Bundesliga matches of the season amid rumours that the player and the coach did not see eye to eye in the dressing room.
However, Ribery made a goal-scoring appearance as a substitute in yesterday’s 5-1 demolition of Borussia Dortmund and Spanish publication Marca quotes the player as saying that he would be willing to negotiate a deal to remain at the Allianz Arena.
It had previously been reported that Ribery would move to Real Madrid in the summer of 2010 after the World Cup, but the Frenchman allegedly said, “We have not yet discussed my contract renewal, but it is something that can be discussed very quickly.
“I feel wanted here and the confidence the club has placed in me is very important. The club knows what I want and have a rough idea of what can happen. In football, sometimes things can go too fast.”
In addition, Ribery clarified that he has patched up any differences with coach Van Gaal and that their relationship has greatly improved.
He said, “It was hard, the coach has his own philosophy but all the players have seen that he is very smart and experienced. He needed time to adapt but we are beginning to see the reward and that makes the players feel good.”
