Having The Best Squad Means Nothing - Villarreal Star Javi Venta

The Spaniard believes that the Yellow Submarine have as good a squad as any...

Javi Venta, Villarreal
Villarreal defender Javi Venta has warned the Primera Division's big spenders that having an expensive squad does not entitle them to success.

The 33-year-old veteran aimed his thinly veiled attack at Barcelona and Real Madrid, who have splashed out on big summer signings, asserting that Villarreal's squad has plenty of quality.

"A great squad doesn't mean you will win," he told Marca.

"Madrid always have a great squad but don't always win the league."

Venta believes the Yellow Submarine's current squad is the best he has seen in some time, and noted that the wealth of foreign talent makes for healthy competition for places.

"This is the best squad in years, but that doesn't guarantee anything. So many international players demonstrate the quality of the squad and how hard it is to get into the team," he said.

"Staying in the team is difficult because the team improves every year, with top internationals, that is why we have top players in our side," he added.
