thumbnail Hello,

The end result was all that mattered for the new recruit...

Alvaro Arbeloa was one of seven debutants for Real Madrid as they kicked off their 2009-10 Primera Division campaign, and he was encouraged by their start.

After Los Merengues' 3-2 win over Deportivo La Coruna, spoke of his happiness at having secured a positive result despite a mixed performance.

"What is important is the three points," the former Liverpool defender told the press after the game. "We are happy. The play will improve.

"It was hot and humid so the game was a bit slow, but the fans were always behind us.

"We must thank them, because it is a great pleasure to have 80,000 people backing you."

Arbeloa then conceded that there was room for improvement in defence, continuing, "With so many attacking players, we are going to concede some goals.

"If we win in the end it does not matter.

"But we must continue working because if we can keep clean sheets, we will win every game."
