thumbnail Hello,

The shot stopper is disappointed with the Dutch winger's departure, but believes his side are better equipped to take on Barcelona...

With Arjen Robben expected to sign for Bayern Munich shortly in a deal worth a reported €25 million, Iker Casillas has expressed his sadness at the Dutchman's departure.

"It's a shame because he is a great player and we've seen that in pre-season," the Spanish 'keeper explained to Marca.

Casillas then moved on to the topic of Barcelona, who he believes were "flawless" last season.

"They are champions of three competitions [Primera Division, Copa del Rey and Champions League] and they have a team that knows how to play.

"It's necessary [for us] to be at the level of this Barca [team], who were flawless last year."

With the astronomical outlay that president Florentino Perez has made on players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Kaka this summer, many expect los Merengues to be challenging on all three fronts next spring. Only time will tell if the squad will gel together, but Casillas, for one, is fully focused on having a good season.

"I have hopes of going into another dynamic, to remove the thorn of last year and hopefully play a good role so that the people of Madrid are happy," the 28-year-old concluded.
