Royston Drenthe: I Will Be A Success At Real Madrid

Having been tipped to leave, the Dutch star now wants to prove he is worthy of a place at Real Madrid...
Royston Drenthe is determined to take his chance at Real Madrid after winning the confidence of new coach Manuel Pellegrini.

The Dutch starlet has had a mixed time of things since joining Los Merengues from Feyenoord in 2007 as he shown what he is capable of, but also how inconsistent he can be and has drawn jeers from the home fans.

That criticism led the media to tip Drenthe to be one of the players to be sold as part of Florentino Perez's rebuilding plans, but instead he has won himself a place in Pellegrini's squad.

"It’s normal to talk about releasing players at the end of each season, but I always believed I would stay here," he was quoted as saying by Real Madrid's official website.

"I signed a five-year contract and I want to have much success here. I’m working hard, as are the rest of my team-mates.

"The coach has talked to me and he is happy about my performance. There are many quality players and there will be competition for each spot in the line-up, but I’m willing to fight for one of them.
"I feel at home in the country, in the city and at the club. There are many new players and I’m happy with them too.

"There are many new players, but we’ve built a team. We’ve worked hard in pre-season and now we must wait for the official games to analyse the team."
