The former Bilbao coach thinks the clubs' trip to England has been ideal preparation for the season ahead...
Valladolid coach Jose Luis Mendilibar has been reflecting on his sides’ pre-season tour of England, and believes that the games they have played will be hugely beneficial for his side as they face up to another gruelling La Liga campaign.
Mendilibar watched as his side lose 2-0 to Wolverhampton Wanderers and stated that he would like to return to England next summer, such was his players enjoyment of the experience.
“It has been a very organised tour, the hotel and training went great, and we have been very quiet," the Basque coach said.
“The rival teams that we faced were strong but noble, you could not ask for more.”
The loss to the newly promoted Premier League side rounded off the tour, and Mendilibar acknowledged that his side had played reasonably well, despite the poor scoreline.
“We had a lot of the ball, but maybe we lacked depth at times. In the second half, we controlled the pace and we should have achieved the victory.”
Valladolid kick off their 2009/10 La Liga campaign with a trip to face Hugo Sanchez’s Almeria side on August 29.
