Ahead of the new season, Lionel Messi has spoken with confidence about Barcelona's chances of repeating their success.

The Blaugrana swept all before them last season, with Messi often playing a starring role. However, Messi has not forgotten his roots, telling Uefa.com, "I arrived at Barcelona at a very young age, but they took great care of me and my family.

"Now I am trying to repay them with my football."

Messi then reflected on a historic season, continuing, "It was a very special year, and all the players and fans enjoyed it.

"I feel very lucky to have been a part of it.

"We can do it again, because everyone in this team works together to achieve success."

Finally, Messi paid tribute to the man who masterminded it all, Pep Guardiola, stating, "His dream was always to play for Barca, and then to coach the team.

"Slowly but surely he gained everyone's confidence through his work. He knows a lot about football and how to transmit those ideas to us.

"He also has a great support staff.

"We all believe in Pep."
