Valencia have won the Borussia Dortmund Centenary Trophy, after winning both their games through penalty shoot-outs.

The tournament followed a unique format whereby each team played each other in a 45 minute game.

In the first match, Los Che took on the hosts and took the lead on 39 minutes when Jordi Alba found the net after being set up by Ever Banega. However, with time running out, Santana equalized for Dortmund, despite the visitors protestations of offside.

Therefore, the game went to penalties, and Valencia won 7-6, thanks to goals from Carletto, Michel, Nikola Zigic, Banega, Joaquín, Jordi Alba and Hedwiges Maduro. Schmeizer missed the crucial penalty for Dortmund.

Valencia's second match against Udinese was a drab affair and remained goal-less after 45 minutes. Thus, another shoot-out ensued, and Los Che ran out 5-3 winners this time, thanks to Ruben Baraja, Vicente, Banega, Miku and Maduro.

Therefore, the final match, between Dortmund and Udinese was rendered academic, but the Germans won 2-1.
