Real Madrid sporting director Jorge Valdano has reiterated his stance that the club are not willing to sanction any new arrivals until members of the current squad are offloaded to generate revenue.

The swoop for Liverpool midfielder Xabi Alonso was rumoured to be edging closer to completion at the beginning of the week, with Los Blancos apparently ready to meet the English side's €35 million valuation of the Spaniard.

Madrid will confirm that they have re-signed playmaker Esteban Granero from Getafe, exercising their buy-back clause to secure the 22-year old for a fee of €4m, but Valdano insists that unless players can be sold in the near future, he does not envisage any further signings taking place.

El Mundo Deportivo reports that the Argentine said, “The door is shut until players leave, except in special cases such as [Esteban] Granero. There will be no new additions soon.”

On the topic of players exiting the Bernabeu, Valdano admitted that the proposed switch of Klaas-Jan Huntelaar to Stuttgart is now dead, after the Dutchman declined the offer of a move to Germany.

He stated, “Right now there is no binding offer for the player. We had a great opportunity, but the player decided to let it pass because he has other expectations. Hopefully we will find some interest from elsewhere in Europe.”
