Jose Luis Mendilibar believes that the fact that Real Valladolid are buying in their own players rather than loaning is a sure sign that things are improving at the club.
The Pucela coach has been impressed by the work that has been done this summer and is delighted to be back working again after a holiday that he felt was too long.
Now Mendilibar is looking to add the finishing touches to his squad and is relishing the new campaign and he thinks that the club should be congratulated for the improvements.
"The holidays have been a bit long. For the last few days one always wants to start again," he told reporters. "It is true that there is always many changes in a natural process, but I must congratulate the board.
"The president [Carlos Suarez] and [sporting director, Roberto] Olabe have travelled many kilometres in the past few months and they have kept in constant contact with me.
"We have started much worse in previous years because the signings have happened now and that is important.
"I think that the work that has been done is great, although there is still a bit more touching up to be done.
"We need a central defender and we may look for other players too or see if the ones that we have can offer something different.
"The fact that the club is now buying its own players shows that we have grown."
Valladolid have signed Hector Font from Villarreal, Diego Costa from Atletico de Madrid, Alberto Bueno from Real Madird, Fabricio from Deportivo and Manucho from Manchester United in a busy pre-season period.
