Jorge Valdano Confirms Real Madrid’s Intent To Repurchase Esteban Granero

Los Blancos look set to follow through with their plan to bring the young midfielder back to the Bernabeu.

The Real Madrid director-general, Jorge Valdano, met with Esteban Granero’s agent, Teo Lazaro, yesterday morning to confirm that the ‘Casa Blanca’ will exercise the clause to buy back the midfielder from Getafe.

According to AS, the meeting took just an hour as the only discussion required was for the Blancos director to make a formal announcement to Granero’s representative, find out if the player personally wants to return to the Santiago Bernabeu, and discuss a date for the plan to be executed.

And the Spanish newspaper believes that Madrid will complete the transfer next Monday, July 27 by paying the €4 million buy-back fee.

Lazaro, however, was a little coy when asked by an AS reporter for details about the meeting, as he only said, “It was just to exchange opinions.”

Even if the 22-year-old does make a return, Madrid are still likely to continue their chase for Xabi Alonso. Granero is not regarded as his back-up plan, as Manuel Pellegrini had previously requested two additional midfielders to bolster the squad.
