Manchester City Reportedly Eager To Pay Out Diego Forlan’s Atletico Madrid Contract

Atleti could still lose their top scorer this summer eventhough Barca are no interested in his services…

Atletico Madrid could face another onslaught for star striker, Diego Forlan.

With Barcelona dropping any interest in the Uruguayan following their move for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Los Colchoneros were hoping that they could continue pre-season preparations with the peace of mind that the 30-year-old will be at the club when the campaign-proper starts.

But latest reports from the Daily Mail claim that Manchester City are set to lure the Pichichi winner to Eastlands by buying out his €36 million release clause.

The Citizens are still busy trying to conclude the €29 million [₤25m] transfer of Emmanuel Adebayor from Arsenal, but it is believed that manager, Mark Hughes has placed Forlan on stand-by in case the deal for the Togolese international falls through.

Over in Italy, meanwhile, it is said that Juventus’ veteran striker, David Trezeguet has also become a back-up option for Adebayor.

Atletico president, Enrique Cerezo has vehemently stressed over the past month that the club will not be selling Forlan and only an offer to buy out his contract will be sufficient to grant any potential suitors an opportunity to engage in personal talks with the player.
