Javier Saviola Wins Bumper Real Madrid Pay-Out - Report

The Catalan press contends that the striker is in the money...

Javier Saviola
According to Sport.es, Real Madrid have had to pay the €5 million received from Benfica for the transfer of Javier Saviola directly to the player.

This is because Saviola had a further two years remaining on his contract at Madrid prior to his departure, and sought compensation for surrendering these.

Thus the Confidencial column in Sport contends that Saviola received his €5m to himself from Madrid after its payment from his new Portuguese club, who are presumably paying him a good deal less than he would have earned at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Saviola, 27, was barely used during his two seasons in the Spanish capital, and announced upon his arrival in Lisbon that he was looking forward to feeling useful as a player once more.

The former River Plate youth signed for the Blancos in 2007 after leaving Barcelona upon the expiration of his contract.
