Ecuador Starlet Jefferson Montero Ready To Fight For His Place At Villarreal

The young playmaker has outlined his main goal even before touching down on Spanish shores…

Jefferson Montero is ready to begin the next phase of his fledgling career, as he travelled to Spain yesterday to start life with Villarreal.

Back in April this year, the 19-year-old agreed to join the Yellow Submarine on a five-year contract. One of his first big challenges, however, is to make a strong impression to avoid being sent out on loan - and he has assured that he is ready the test.

“I will go to Spain with a lot of desire to fight for a place in the Villarreal first team. This is a dream come true for me as I have always wanted to play for a big club,” he told reporters who gathered at Quito’s Mariscal Sucre Airport to send him off.

He was accompanied by his agent, Diego Herrera, who will head to Villarreal to iron out a few minor contractual details with the club directors.

The young midfielder completed the Ecuadorian Second Division season just last week with Independiete Jose Terran, where he finished as the club’s top scorer with 14 goals.

He already has six caps and two strikes with Ecuador’s senior national team.
