Atletico Madrid Star Sergio Aguero Is The Best Paid Player Under 21
A recent study has shown that ‘El Kun’ has pipped Karim Benzema to become the world’s best paid player under the age of 21…
The Argentine hot-shot’s massive wage demands appear to be scaring off his potential suitors, and there were even reports that Chelsea were stunned to learn that he would demand €8 million net per year to move to Stamford Bridge - a request that would have made him the best paid player in the Premier League.
But it has now been revealed that the figure may not be that startling after all, considering he currently earns €5 million a year with Atleti.
A magazine that specialises in the economic side of the game, Futebol Finance, has published their findings and they believe that ‘El Kun’ is the highest paid player under 21.
The only player in his age bracket to even come close to his salary is Olympique Lyonnais’ Karim Benzema, who earns €4.8m per year, while the rest of the class are well behind. Theo Walcott, for example, makes €3m a year with Arsenal, Pato only €3m, although he is reportedly in negotiations with Milan to increase it to €4m, and Manchester United pay Anderson just €1.9m.
Gonzalo Higuain earns €1.8m at Real Madrid, Mario Balotelli €1.3m with Inter, while the likes of Marcelo, Bojan Krkic and Nicklas Bendtner make around the €1m region.
At €5m per year, Aguero, who turned 21 on June 2, earns the same as Carles Puyol, Andres Iniesta, Xavi and Gianluigi Buffon as the 29th highest paid footballer in the world.
Los Colchoneros are reportedly unwilling to review Aguero’s contract any further, although they are eager to increase his current €60m buy-out clause.
