Official: Villarreal Sign Goalkeeper Xavi Oliva

The goalkeeper has joined on a two-year deal...

Villarreal (FIRO)

Villarreal have signed experienced goalkeeper Xavi Oliva from Castellon on a two-year deal it has been announced today.

The 33-year-old has been with Castellon for the last seven seasons but has broken his contract to join Villarreal.

Oliva's former club have confirmed that he has now departed, and will be presented as a Villarreal player this Thursday.

The Primera club have already stated that he has joined for two seasons and that he will be part of the squad next season.

Whether or not he will play many minutes at El Madrigal is another matter and could depend on the future of Diego Lopez.

The Spanish goalkeeper has been rumoured to be leaving Villarreal but lately reports have died down, suggesting he could be staying.

If he does remain at the club then it seems almost certain he will retain the number one shirt and Oliva will be a back-up.

It has not yet been revealed how much the deal for Oliva will cost Villarreal.
