The European Champions meet the surprise qualifiers from Group B this Wednesday evening, with the winner making it through to the final next weekend.
Capdevila told the press today that he is hoping they will meet Brazil in that final, but that Spain are not getting too carried away just yet.
"To get to the final against Brazil would be a great game, something we all thought about before coming and we're on the way," he explained.
"But to think beyond the semi-finals would be an error. Who knows if we'll be there or not, so we have to think about the U.S. and that's it."
The United States made it through to the semi-final stage at the expense of both Egypt and Italy, who Capdevila is surprised did not qualify.
"It went badly for them because they couldn't do things well. A Spain-Italy matchup would have drawn more people, but the United States is in the semi-finals because they won and there's nothing more to say," he mused.
Should Capdevila start against on Wednesday he is likely to meet his Villarreal team-mate Jozy Altidore, who, he revealed, sent him a text message this week, albeit not in the best Spanish.
"Yesterday he sent me a message and told me that we had to be careful, but his Spanish is not so great, so I think he made a mistake," he joked.
"He was only half a year at the club before we loaned him out to Xerez, but he's 18 or 19, is very strong physically and has great speed."
