Villarreal general manager, Jose Manuel Llaneza, has revealed that they are not willing to let Matias Fernandez leave on loan this summer, but are not against selling him.
The Chilean has failed to settle in at El Madrigal, since joining two years ago, and now looks set to leave during the transfer window.
However, reports that he could be moving to Sporting Lisbon on loan appear to be wide of the mark, as Llaneza explained.
"Matias is a player who it would be difficult to loan out to another club. At this time we are not thinking about loaning him out," Marca quote him as saying.
"It is clear that, as I have said, it is very difficult for Matias to leave here on loan. If anything else [a transfer offer] came in, then we would have to value and study it, nothing more."
Sporting appear to be the side who have shown the most interest in the Chilean but it is not known how much they would be willing to pay for him.
Reports, during the week, claimed that the Portuguese club would prefer to take him on loan, but now they may have to pay around €5 million to sign him instead.
