thumbnail Hello,

The Blaugrana’s search for a possible goalkeeping replacement has brought them to Merseyside…

It was reported yesterday that Barcelona are considering making a move for Liverpool shot-stopper Pepe Reina should they fail to secure a contract extension for current No. 1, Victor Valdes.

And according to El Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana could land the Reds goalkeeper, who has a contract with the Anfield outfit until 2014, for around €20 million (₤17.5), even though Rafa Benitez has never put a valuation on a player he considers indispensable and the Catalans have never hinted at making an approach.

Meanwhile, Barca captain Carles Puyol, currently away on Confederations Cup duty with Spain, has told the paper’s correspondent in South Africa that he categorically denies acting as the mediator in the deal to bring Reina back to the Camp Nou.

Rumours that Barcelona had already offered the 26-year-old a five-year contract worth €5 million per season have also been rejected.
