The youngster has become Malaga's first summer signing after joining late last week and will hope to get more minutes with the Andalucian club than he received with Barca.
Speaking about his move today, he admitted that he "wanted to play for a club in La Primera, but did not think it would be one so good".
"I was told that Malaga were willing to sign me for four seasons and that they were very excited about the prospect; I did not even think about it," Marca quote him as saying.
Xavi Torres had risen up through the youth system at Barcelona but failed to make it into the first team until the end of the season.
He played two matches at the final stage of the campaign and insists that he has "many desires to prove himself and to help the club finish at least as well as this past season".
The 22-year-old also revealed that he spoke about to Pep Guardiola about the move, and he told him that he was going to a "great club".
