Negotiations between Barcelona and Victor Valdes have broken down after neither side could find common ground to reach an agreement and the club could step up their search for a new goalkeeper, according to a report.
The Catalan custodian and his representatives have been locked in talks for several days, but they have now reached an impasse and there are no more meetings planned according to Sport.
Valdes wants his contract brought in line with several of the club's other top earners, but Barcelona are not prepared to pay him exactly what he wants.
With AC Milan and Manchester United being linked with the 27-year-old, he has been emboldened to hold out for a better deal, but that may prove to be costly.
Barcelona have already been scouring the market for a new keeper to play as back-up to Valdes and it may now prove to be that they are actually looking for his replacement.
Having joined the Blaugrana in 1995, Valdes moved up to the B side in 2000 and three seasons later was in the first team under coach Raddy Antic.
While some have questioned his consistency due to the odd mistake, Valdes has broken club and league records between the sticks and is highly rated within the game.
