Panathinaikos Want Real Madrid Winger Royston Drenthe – Report

The left-winger appears to be on his way out of the Santiago Bernabeu…

According to a report in Dutch newspaper AD/Sportwereld, Greek giants Panathinaikos are considering making a move for highly-rated winger Royston Drenthe. The 22-year-old is no longer needed at Real Madrid.

Panathinaikos coach Henk ten Cate has always been a keen admirer of Drenthe and would be delighted to add him to his squad in the upcoming transfer window.

Drenthe joined Los Merengues from Feyenoord in the summer of 2007. However, the talented youngster failed to live up to the high expectations and was mainly warming the bench in the past two seasons.

The former Holland under-21 star has made 38 league appearances for Real Madrid, netting two goals.

New Real Madrid chairman Florentino Perez is planning a mass clear-out at the Spanish powerhouse this summer and is reportedly ready to offload the majority of the Dutch players at Madrid.

However, the speculation surrounding him isn’t worrying Drenthe too much yet.

“I don’t want to think about what will happen with me at Madrid at the moment. I’m going on my holiday and we’ll see what happens when I return,” said the former Feyenoord player.
