Abel Resino: My Atletico Madrid Future Will Be Decided This Week
The coach looks as though he is going to stay on at the club, but nothing has been confirmed yet...
Abel Resino has revealed that his future as Atletico Madrid coach will be decided by the end of the week.
The former goalkeeper took over earlier this year from Javier Aguirre and despite a slow start, has led Atletico to a fourth place finish and a berth in the Champions League qualifying stages.
Reports in the press suggest that it is unclear whether he will stay on as coach, with the club having already scouted out potential replacements.
Nevertheless, speaking about his future today, Resino said that a decision will be made later this week
"For the time being there is no news, but by the end of the week my future will be clear," Marca quote him as saying.
The coach went on to state that now is "not the time nor the place" to sit down and talk about his future, as Atletico are in Finland for a friendly against IFK Marienhamn.
When they return from Scandinavia it is thought that Resino will discuss his contract with director Gil Marin and president Enrique Cerezo.
As well as Resino, it is also reported that Atletico will finalise the future of Sergio Asenjo this week, with the goalkeeper expected to sign a four-year deal at the club.
