Barcelona’s Seydou Keita Reiterates His Desire Not To Play At Full-Back

Barcelona have plenty of options for full-back and do not need midfielders to fill in, claims one man tipped for the job...

Back In Town: Sporting's Fabio Rochemback returned to Camp Nou and is pictured facing up against Seydou Keita of Barcelona in his side's 3-1 defeat to the Blaugrana.
Seydou Keita has sought to completely dismiss the idea of him playing at full-back in the Champions League final for Barcelona as he reiterated his belief that there are better players for the job.

The Malian midfielder was tipped to drop back last week in the build-up to the big game and, after stating that he was not keen on the idea then, he has now hammered home the message that he does not want to feature in an alien role.

Coach Pep Guardiola revealed that he had sat Keita down and heard his reasons, however, the press continued to push the idea and that has led to the player speaking out once more.

“Why would I move places? Other players can be played at full-back," he told Setanta Sports.

“You have plenty of options in Sylvinho, Carles Puyol and Martin Caceres. They are good enough. I am a midfielder and this is my best position.

“Winning the battle in midfield could prove decisive in this historic game against a huge team. This area of the pitch is where things happen during finals.

“Manchester United are one of the best teams in the world and to be honest I am pretty excited ahead of the final. Being there is the dream of every footballer, but people only remember who won it.”
