Pellegrini Proud Of Villarreal After Valencia Win

The Yellow Submarine are unlikely to qualify for the Champions League despite the win, but the boss has no complaints...

Manuel Pellegrini, Real Madrid (PA)
Manuel Pellegrini was proud of his Villarreal players after their 3-1 win over Valencia, although their Champions League hopes currently hang by a thread.

Atletico Madrid's win at Athletic Bilbao means that Villarreal must now win their final game at Mallorca, while hoping that Los Colchoneros slip up at home to Almeria. An unlikely scenario, but Pellegrini was still pleased.

"It is unfortunate, but I am happy with our season," he told the press.

"We played a good game, and could have won by more. Now we go to Mallorca to win, and hope."

Villarreal have been in superb form of late, scoring three goals in each of their games against Barcelona, Real Madrid and Valencia, and Pellegrini has been suitably impressed.

He added, "We have recovered well after being knocked out of the Champions League."
