Pique Relishing Barcelona's Encounter With Manchester United
The Blaugrana defender will be aiming for his second Champions League title in a row, having won the crown with the Red Devils last year...
With a week remaining until the Champions League final, Gerard Pique has offered his thoughts on the upcoming clash.
The Barcelona defender won the competition last year, while playing for Manchester United. This time around, he will be trying to get one over his old team.
Looking ahead to the game, Pique said, "It would be different to win it with Barca, it would be fantastic.
"The fans are enjoying our success. To win would be the icing on the cake of a great season."
Inevitably, the talk quickly turned to the Lionel Messi versus Cristiano Ronaldo debate. Pique has played with both of them, but he has no doubts as to who the greater player is.
"Leo is better," he continued.
"He is having an incredible year, not just in terms of goals, but also his team-work."
However, Pique is by no means underestimating Ronaldo's threat, as he added, "He has tremendous speed.
"If you leave him a metre he will take advantage, and he can also score from 40 metres. He is very dangerous because he is a complete player."
Pique then elaborated on the tactics United are likely to use, and Ronaldo's role in particular, saying, "I am convinced he will play as a centre forward.
"He already did it at the Camp Nou last year, and is used to doing it in important games. He can drift to the wings, but he will use the centre as his reference.
"I am not worried about him, this is the Champions League final, a unique game, and I will enjoy it."
While Pique did win the trophy last year, he played no role in the final, whereas he is set to start this game in the centre of defence.
