Sevilla Defender Javi Navarro Announces Retirement
After spells with Valencia, Logrones, Elche and Sevilla, Javi Navarro has been forced to hang up his boots...
Javi Navarro has announced that he will retire from football at the end of the current campaign after trying to regain full fitness at Sevilla for two years.
The 35-year-old central defender believes that he will not be able to recover from the injury to his right knee to the level required to play in la Primera again.
After eight seasons at the Andalucian club, Navarro admitted that it was a difficult decision to make and was very grateful to everyone that had helped him try to regain full fitness.
"The club have helped me through the good and the bad times," he is quoted as saying by AS.
Navarro is keen to stay in football and hinted that he is lining up a role at Sevilla in a coaching capacity that would see him remain in the city and at the club.
"It would be a pleasure for me to stay here and continue to work for Sevilla," he added.
While playing a vital role at the back as Sevilla enjoyed a golden era that saw them win five trophies under Juande Ramos, his career has also been hit with controversy.
Earning four appearances for Spain, Navarro also won headlines after his brutal collision with Mallorca's Juan Arango that only served to reinforce his reputation as a hard man.
