Atletico Madrid Are Only Thinking About Beating Valencia - Abel Resino

The coach has stated that his side will be going for the win this Sunday evening...

Atletico Madrid cannot think about anything other than beating Valencia this Sunday evening, according to coach Abel Resino.

The capital club sit just one point behind their opponents in the league table and, with just three games to go until the end of the season, the encounter at the Vicente Calderon has been billed as the battle for fourth place.

But Resino argues that if they think about just taking a point from the match, then they will more than likely end up losing it.

"We are only thinking about winning, we cannot think about drawing because then we would not depend on ourselves and anything could happen. In our minds, we are just focusing on beating Valencia. I think that if you play to draw, then you will end up losing," AS quote him as saying.

A win for Atletico would put them in pole position to qualify for the Champions League, with just two games left to go.

The coach believes that, up until now, the team has done well and that any talk of failure is not fair, considering they are fighting for the top four.

"Arriving at the final stages of the season battling for the Champions League places means we have worked well. It cannot be said that we have failed, because we are in the fight and I hope we obtain it in the end," he mused.

Finally, Resino spoke about the main problem position for Sunday evening; right-back, where both Johnny Heitinga and Luis Perea are suspended.

Resino has decided to call up youngster Cesar Ortiz to the squad and admits that he could play in the game.

"I know, more or less, what I will do. We have Atletico B player, Cesar, who can play. I have not said he will, but if he does then it is because I have confidence in him," he explained.

Certainly Resino does appear to have enough confidence to include him in the squad, along with Alvaro Dominguez, who has featured before in the initial selection.

The other news from the squad is that Florent Sinama-Pongolle has recovered from injury and is included.

Atletico Madrid squad to face Valencia:
Leo Franco, Gregory Coupet, Cesar Ortiz, Pablo Ibanez, Alvaro Dominguez, Tomas Ujfalusi, Mariano Pernia, Miguel de las Cuevas, Maxi Rodriguez, Luis Garcia, Simao Sabrosa, Ever Banega, Paulo Assuncao, Ignacio Camacho, Raul Garcia, Sinama-Pongolle, Sergio Aguero, Diego Forlan.
