Official: Atletico Madrid Terminate Seitaridis Contract
The Greek international is now free to leave the club...
Atletico Madrid have confirmed that they have terminated the contract of Greek defender Giorgios Seitaridis this afternoon.
The experienced right-back has been with the club for three seasons but will now be free to negotiate with other teams.
Seitaridis is the second Atletico player to end his career with the club in this manner after midfielder Maniche saw his contract rescinded a few weeks ago.
Both players were disciplined by the club not long ago for missing matches that they were supposed to attend, and that is thought to have been the straw that has broken the camel's back.
Atletico sporting director, Jesus Garcia Pitarch, has apparently been negotiating with the player and his agent since yesterday and they have reached an agreement this afternoon.
His deal was set to expire next summer, but as a message on the official Atletico Madrid website confirmed, he is now free to leave.
"Atletico Madrid and Giorgios Seitaridis have reached a satisfactory agreement to terminate the contract of the player, that was set to expire in June 2010. From now, Seitaridis is free to negotiate his future with any other interested clubs.
"Atletico Madrid wish the best of luck to the player, who has worn the shirt for the last three seasons, in whatever new adventure he will undertake," read the statement.
