Perez Ready To Present Real Madrid Presidential Case After Barcelona Mauling
The Galacticos revival now seems all too imminent following the weekend thrashing which has effectively ended Los Blancos' hopes of retaining the league crown.
It is no longer a question of if Florentino Perez will run for the upcoming Real Madrid presidential elections, but when he will present his case.
According to AS, immediately after Saturday night’s humiliation against Barcelona, Perez held several talks with his election team and his right-hand man, Jorge Valdano, to fast-track their plans.
But Florentino is determined not to rush things, as he is still working on presenting a strong campaign to the club members. He will reportedly submit his presidency next week, after the Electoral Meeting, even though the candidates won’t be officially summoned until May 20.
It is believed that he first wants to sort out the big issue of who to take over from Juande Ramos at the Santiago Bernabeu dugout, as it has become apparent that the ex-Sevilla coach is unlikely to continue now that the league title is out of reach.
As far as record-breaking player transfers go, both Florentino and Valdano seem to agree on bringing in a certified superstar. They have targeted three world-class foreign players, namely Cristiano Ronaldo, Kaka and Franck Ribery, but they are also eager to have a distinct Spanish flavour to the side.
As such, Cesc Fabregas, Xabi Alonso, David Villa and David Silva have all popped up in their shopping list again and of these seven players, the construction tycoon is aiming to snare at least four of them.
The hunt for Ronaldo is now almost all but over after the Portuguese himself declared that he no longer harbours any dreams to join the Merengues.
