Espanyol Coach Mauricio Pochettino Urges Caution Despite Valencia Win

Espanyol notched up their fourth win in succession to rocket out of the bottom five for the first time since early November, after an impressive 3-0 victory over Valencia.

Despite inching up towards mid-table, miracle-worker coach Mauricio Pochettino refused to let his guard down as he warned his side that they are not yet safe.

“We were superior against an excellent Valencia side and that is credit to the players,” he said during the post-match interviews. “We have worked hard in all aspects and now we are seeing the fruits of our labour.

“We may have won 3-0 against a great rival, but we are still in an uncomfortable situation. There’s excellent energy because of this result, but there are still a lot of games to go before May 31 to stay out of the relegation zone.”

The Argentine then went on to praise his players for the way they have responded to their impending crisis ever since he arrived at the club.

“The team are making a big effort and they have always made themselves available to work hard,” he revealed.

“The joy that we have experienced today is important and it was much needed, but there’s still much to do.”

Espanyol have now won five of their last eight games and lost only once as they sit in 14the place in the table, four points clear of the drop zone.
