Maxi Rodriguez Unconcerned With Maniche And Seitaridis Sanction

The midfielder is only thinking about making the top four....

Maxi Rodriguez has revealed that the absences of Giourkas Seitaridis and Maniche are "neither positive nor negative" for Atletico Madrid.

The pair were given a ten day suspension and fine for not turning up at the game last weekend and they are not even allowed to train with the squad.

Taking the neutral viewpoint, club captain Maxi said the team is unconcerned and that "it is a decision of the club that has to be accepted".

"We are not thinking about it. Yesterday I was told about it by the coach and [Jesus] Garcia Pitarch, and we do not yet know if their absences will affect the team. If we do badly then people will say yes it does, that happens with all sides," AS quote him as saying.

Maxi was also asked about the abuse that the players have been taking at home from their own fans recently, particularly Mariano Pernia, who has been on the end of some harsh treatment.

"Nobody likes to be made fun of. Players like Pernia were part of the team that reached the Champions League for the first time in ten years and should be respected for that," he explained.

"The best thing of all is to play at home and have your fans encouraging you. We expected the reaction that we got in the match against Sporting [Gijon] though."

With regards to the Champions League this season, Maxi knows that it will be hard but believes they can do it.

"I think it is very possible, if we win all five games we can do it and we must all believe we can make it. There is a long way to go and we must keep on fighting," he mused.

Finally, he spoke about his own future, stating that he is happy to stay at Atletico despite interest from abroad.

"A friend has told me about the Juventus talk but I have a year left on my contract and I am very happy here. I am grateful for things said in the press, but I am calm and trying to ignore the rumours," he concluded.
