Maniche & Seitaridis Do Not Add Anything To Atletico Madrid - Resino

Atletico Madrid’s two outcasts, Maniche and Giourkas Seitaridis, were yesterday slapped with a ten-day suspension from all club activities for not turning up at the Vicente Calderon to watch their side’s game against Sporting Gijon last weekend.

While the club hierarchy have already spoken about their decision, coach Abel Resino gave his views on the controversial matter late last night, and he didn’t have too many nice things to say about the exiled duo.

“I look at the squad and I see who contributes and who doesn’t. In a team, it is not possible to hold on to players who do not give anything back, and Maniche and Seitaridis do not add anything to the team, yet they remain,” he said in an interview with the Cadena SER programme, ‘El Larguero’.

“In all honesty, I would rather give a chance to two young lads from the youth side. I do not ask for all the players to kiss the team badge. That is only for those who have grown up inside the club.

“But what I do want is professionalism. Those who do not want to involve themselves, I do not want them on my side. It’s now best for Maniche and Seitaridis to solve the issue with the club as best as possible, but I have already told them that I do not need their services.”

Resino’s future is none the clearer at Atletico, as rumours continue to surface that he could be axed from the job at the end of the season due to his unconvincing performance so far.

“This is difficult work because I’m exposed to everyone’s opinions, but it is necessary to be able to accept them,” he said.

“When I first arrived, we were five points off the Champions League zone. Now we are only four behind. There is nothing to shout about this season, but it is not over yet and we will fight until the end to be in the top four.

“It is not necessary to worry about my future. Right now, we just have to worry about moving forward.”

Los Colchoneros are sixth in the standings at present and they will visit Real Betis this Sunday at 21:00 CET.
