Valencia Midfielder Albelda Out For Two To Three Weeks

The midfielder will miss the game with Barcelona this weekend after suffering a training ground injury...

David Albelda had to be carried from a Valencia training session on a stretcher this afternoon and is now expected to be out for two to three weeks.

The midfielder injured himself whilst trying to avoid a shot from Ruben Baraja and ended up falling on the ground in agony.

His screams and shouts of pain were reportedly heard all around the training complex and he was immediately taken from the pitch by the medical team.

The injury is not as serious as was first feared though and the official Valencia website explains that he landed badly on his ankle and has suffered inflammation and damaged the ligaments.

Hence, he will be out of action for two to three weeks and will miss the game with Barcelona this weekend.

Speaking after the injury, Albelda told Marca that he breathed a sigh of relief after knowing the extent of the injury as he feared it was much worse.

He recalled that he heard a crack when the incident happened and that he was worried it might be the same injury as he suffered a few years ago, a fractured ankle.

However, whilst it isn't that serious, he will be out for the next two to three weeks and will miss some big games for Valencia.
