Pep Guardiola Bans Barcelona Stars From Watching Rafael Nadal In Tennis Tournament

Barcelona's stars will not be able to watch the world's best tennis players in action on their doorstep after they were banned from going to the event...

Pep Guardiola has prevented all of his players from attending the Barcelona Open tennis tournament this week as he does not want any distractions from the league.

The Blaugrana boss has already proven this term that he does not like members of his squad appearing in public in the build-up to important matches and he has laid down the law again.

Several stars were lined up to be present at the Real Club de Tenis in Barcelona’s affluent Pedralbes neighbourhood to mingle and be part of a number of promotions.

That has been stopped as Guardiola told his players on Tuesday that they were not to go out this week as Barca have two games in four days.

On Wednesday, the tennis tournament, known as el Godo, begins. Rafael Nadal is the main attraction in an event that will see most of the world's best players participate.

That same evening, Barcelona take on Sevilla in Camp Nou and then on Saturday they play against Valencia in the Mestalla. Two wins are vital to stay out in front of Real Madrid.

Guardiola introduced a rule last summer that states players cannot perform any publicity stunts or be seen at events 48 hours before any given game.
