Barcelona Coach Pep Guardiola Praises Consistent Sevilla

The Blaugrana coach has warned his players to put on their A-game against the Rojiblancos on Wednesday night.

Barcelona will face the first of a series of demanding fixtures over the next few weeks as they welcome Sevilla to the Camp Nou.

The Andalucians enter the game on the back of successive defeats, but Barca coach Pep Guardiola is still wary of the threat posed by Manolo Jimenez’s wounded outfit.

“They are third in the league, they have players of very high quality, they are going to be very dangerous, and we will have to be at our best against them,” he said during the pre-match press call.

“They have been constantly improving over the past few years. Even though they had to sell so many big players, they are still keeping pace with the big teams and their record now has been even more impressive than before.

“In attack, they are very strong. They don’t need a lot of possession of the ball but they are very fast on the counter.”

In the face of what will undoubtedly be Guardiola’s toughest run of games, the coach has asked for the cules to come out and support their side in numbers, especially at home.

“It is time for the Camp Nou to rise. We cannot win anything without the support of our fans,” he pleaded.

“They have already helped us a lot this season, but we want more, because if we can win our home games, we can compete for all the titles.”

Pep concluded the interview by admitting that he did not know yet if Lionel Messi, who is suffering from stomach pains, would be fit to play against Sevilla, as a decision will only be taken right before the game.
