Nihat Kahveci: Villarreal Cannot Afford To Stumble Anymore In La Liga

The diminutive Turkish forward has rallied his team-mates to bounce back to put a stop to their recent bad streak of form.

Things have gone decidedly pear-shaped for Villarreal as their poor league form has continued at the back of their tame Champions League quarter-final exit to Arsenal.

The Yellow Submarine have now failed to score a single goal in their last three Primera Division outings, and with only one win in their last five, they have stumbled well out of the top four.

Forward, Nihat Kahveci is concerned about his team’s poor run but he urged the team to put an end to their rot if they are to secure Champions League football again.

“When you are in a bad run of form, the only thing you can do is continue working to get better and that is what we are going to do,” he was quoted as saying by Marca.

“Atletico Madrid and Valencia have already overtaken us and now, we can no longer falter any more.

“Ofcourse, all is not lost yet, but we have seven games remaining and we have to win most of them,” he added.

The 29-year-old then spoke about his own goal drought as he has yet to find the back of the net for El Submarino in any competition this term, although he has had to contend with a spate of injuries.

“It is not normal that a team like Villarreal have gone so many games without scoring. And the first thing that I have to do is look at myself because I’m the first ones who want to score yet I have not been doing that,” he mused.

“I would like to score as soon as possible, because as forwards, we live for the goals and we are judged by them.”

Finally, the Turk assured that the team will do everything they can to snap their woeful streak against Recreativo Huelva on Thursday.

“We have to beat Recre and we know it. We are playing at home and we cannot fail in any way, shape or form, although it will not be easy as they are fighting to stay in La Liga,” he concluded.

Villarreal are currently sixth in the standings, three points adrift of fourth place but more disconcertingly, they are only two points away from dropping out of the top six.
