Malaga Coach Tapia Not Getting Excited About Europe After Villarreal Win

The Malaguista trainer is fully aware that there are still tough challenges ahead before his side can celebrate qualifying for Europe.

Malaga further boosted their hopes of securing a ticket to European competition next season when they stunned Villarreal 2-0 at El Madrigal.

Portuguese wingers, Duda and Eliseu netted the goals for the modest Andaluz outfit, a victory which sent them up to sixth and they are now just two points away from the Champions League qualifying zone. But coach, Antonio Tapia, refused to get carried away, although he admitted that the triumph is a massive injection of morale.

“It was a tough game but also very open, and by scoring, we have now cancelled out our negative goal difference,” he told reporters after the encounter.

“It will not be easy to fight for Europe because we still have to confront a lot of difficult teams. What we have to do is stay calm, avoid the euphoria, keep our feet on the ground and just keep fighting in each and every game.

“We must be realistic and know our limitations so that we do not create excessive expectations. We’re only interested in our next few games and eventhough we will be facing teams in the lower half of the table, it will not be easy,” he concluded.

Up next for Malaga are Real Mallorca and Osasuna, before playing host to Deportivo La Coruna in what could be a decisive battle for a top six finish.
