The Catalan midfielder recognised that scoring goals will be important, but he believes that keeping things tight at the other end will be more the key to winning the tie.
Both Barcelona and Bayern have netted 24 goals each in the Champions League this season, but Xavi is hopeful that his side can stop the Bavarians from adding to that tally.
"It could be vital. We are in great form up front, but we need to endeavour to score while ensuring that we do not concede," he told ZDF.
"They are still very impressive and the great clubs always pull together when they need to.
"We are optimistic, but we know that they could be even stronger as they may now feel they have something to prove.
"They are going to go all out to win and for us to lose to them would feel bad."
Xavi praised Lionel Messi, but stated that the Argentinian would not be as successful as he has been without the help of the rest of the Barcelona side.
"We are a team and Messi would be nobody without the other ten players. We all need each other. But is it obvious that he is one of the best players in the world," he added.
