thumbnail Hello,

The captain recognised that at this stage of the competition they should be motivated enough...

Carles Puyol has said that there is no room for excuses when Barcelona take on Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

The Catalans are still competing on three fronts this season and against the attacking talents of the German side are likely to have their work cut out for them.

When asked about fatigue and motivation today though, Puyol said that he did not want to hear about them as possible excuses.

"The motivation to win gives you all the strength you need to keep going. The team’s playing well right now and there’s no room for excuses," he told the official Barcelona website.

"We have to play aggressively, both defensively and in attack...We believe Barca can win. We’re looking for a good result that will set us up to get through to the next round."

Certainly a good result at the Camp Nou this week would be a big step towards the semi-finals of the competition, where either Liverpool or Chelsea would await.

Puyol knows that the German side will be dangerous though and that they have quality players in their ranks.

"They are a big club, with great players and an impressive history. They have players who can win the game and we’ll have to be careful – they are going to be dangerous," he said.

"We have a lot of respect for them. At this stage of the competition all the teams are good."

The captain was also asked about how Bayern's defeat in the Bundesliga at the weekend might affect them, and said he believes it could make them stronger.

"They’re going to come out even more motivated now and that just makes them more dangerous," he concluded.
