Robert Pires And Javi Venta Sign New Villarreal Deals
Villarreal have announced that the two influential veterans will be staying at the club for at least another season after penning new deals.
Robert Pires and Javi Venta have given Villarreal a boost ahead of their Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal by penning new one-year deals at the club.
The duo's contracts were set to run out this summer and if either had been allowed to leave for free then the club would have had to work hard to find adequate replacements.
Announced on the club's official website, the news will be well received by the fans and the rest of the players after the pair put pen-to-paper on deals to keep them at El Madrigal until June 2010.
Pires joined the club in 2006 after six seasons with Arsenal and has become a firm favourite with his creativity and vision helping to make up for the loss of Juan Roman Riquelme.
The 35-year-old missed almost all of his first season in Spain after damaging cruciate ligaments in a friendly tournament in Cadiz a month after joining the club.
Javi Venta, 33, is in his tenth season at the club and has been on board as the Yellow Submarine have risen to the great heights that they are now enjoying.
Having started with his hometown club of Oviedo, the full-back moved to Villarreal after stints in the lower divisions and in 2006 was in Luis Aragones' provisional squad for the World Cup finals.
