Atletico Madrid Eyeing Malaga’s Portuguese Winger Eliseu
Los Colchoneros are looking to strengthen their squad with one of Malaga’s unheralded impressive performers this season.
Atletico
The Portuguese has been one of the revelations in the Primera Division this season with surprise package Malaga and, according to AS, Atleti are ready to challenge the likes of Real Betis and Deportivo La Coruna, both of whom have already expressed their interest in the 25-year-old.
The left-footed winger, who can play on both flanks, would be ideal for los Colchoneros as his versatility will help the club cut their expenses and trim down the squad. They are already expected to lose several wingers, including Jose Antonio Reyes, who looks certain to be shipped off permanently to Benfica, Luis Garcia and youngster Miguel, who could be sent on loan to gain more experience.
There are also rumours that captain Maxi Rodriguez could leave the Vicente Calderon for Italy. Atletico are reportedly willing to listen to offers.
An attacking combination down the flanks between Eliseu and compatriot Simao certainly appeals to the Rojiblancos, however, they are aware that the Malaga man is hesitant to abandon his current club.
He currently only has a €600,000 buy-out clause in his contract - a sum Atletico will easily be able to afford - and the capital outfit are also hoping to tempt him with a salary package of around €1 million per year, more than triple what he is earning with the Andalusians (€300, 000 per season) at present.
One of Atleti’s other main weaknesses this campaign has been at right-back. As such, reports have emerged that they have set their sights on Eliseu’s team-mate, Jesus Gamez. Los Colchoneros’ sporting director, Jesus Garcia Pitarch, has already scouted the highly-rated 23-year-old once so far this season, however, Liverpool’s Alvaro Arbeloa and Estudiantes’ Marco Angeleri have also been linked to the Calderon.
