David Villa has declared today that he wants to break Raul's record of 44 goals for Spain some day.

The Valencia striker currently has 25 goals for the national team and after bagging one in each of the last six games, he is in fine form at the moment.

Speaking to Eurosport, he admitted that Raul's record is distant, but it is something that he wants to aim towards.

"Long-term, I would like to break the record of Raul who has 44 goals. It is a distant goal but I want to keep on scoring and playing for the national team. Each time I wear the shirt I am proud and being in the history of the team is important for me," he mused.

There were fears that Villa would not be able to play against Turkey this weekend due to injury but he sounds optimistic that he will be fit.

"I am doing well. I have been out of 15 days but I trained with the team on Saturday and Monday. It helps me to get confidence and the knee is healing well. I think I will be able to play on Saturday and help the team," he opined.

Certainly Spain look a stronger side when 'El Guaje' does play and the striker knows that right now, they are the team to beat in Europe.

"It is a pressure that everyone likes. We like the demand, it makes us work harder and it is good that we have to do it. Now we must win our two games against Turkey. The last few occasions we have struggled to qualify and now it is in our hands. We have a good chance to avoid any suffering. As soon as we are qualified for the World Cup we can start to think about the Confederations Cup," he concluded.
