No Favourites In The Madrid Derby – Atletico’s Leo Franco

The goalkeeper does not believe his side go to the Bernabeu as underdogs, instead he simply thinks Real Madrid go into the game on the back of a better run...

Leo Franco - Atletico de Madrid
Atletico Madrid goalkeeper Leo Franco has declared that there are "no favourites" in the Madrid derby, which takes place this weekend.

The Argentine told AS that, even though Real Madrid come into the match in impressive form, his side will be able to compete.

"There are no favourites,” he asserted. “Madrid have won ten games in a row and they come into the game in better form than us.”

Atletico will be boosted by their win over Barcelona last weekend, which saw them close the gap on the top four teams again.

Leo Franco admitted that all he is thinking about is winning the match and that he knows both teams have world class offensive players.

The goalkeeper was also asked about who, from the Real Madrid side, he would get drunk before the game. He had no hesitation in answering.

"Their most important player is Raul,” he smiled. “I would not get him drunk but I would try to make sure that he played as badly as possible.”

One key player Real Madrid will be without is defender Pepe, who is suspended for the match, but Leo Franco revealed that he feels the league champions have enough cover for the Portuguese star.

"Madrid have many [potential] replacements for Pepe,” the goalkeeper said. “Even so, it is good that they will have a defence that has not played every game together.”
