Juande Ramos Encouraged By Real Madrid's Win At Espanyol
After seeing his side notch up their tenth straight win, the Blancos boss believes the match could be the catalyst for great things in the future...
Real Madrid coach Juande Ramos has offered an extensive analysis of his side's latest win.
Speaking at the post-match press conference following the 2-0 triumph over Espanyol, he said, "We knew the game would not be easy, but we had the right attitude
"It was an even game until Guti scored. From then on, Espanyol had to take risks, so we scored a second.
"Since then we dominated the game, and deserved the three points."
Ramos then elaborated on the tactical positioning of his players, saying, "Both teams came out trying to win and were cancelling each other out. We had too many players too far forward, so we had to change things.
"Raul pushed a bit further back and scored a goal. Also Guti got a lot of the ball when he came on and helped the team a lot."
The Merengues boss then spoke about the atmosphere in the dressing room, saying, "We were confident after so many good results, but the loss against Liverpool [in the Champions League] hurt us. We tried to recover in three days, so these three points were important.
"I expect the confidence to return."
The win brings the Bernabeu giants to within four points of Barcelona (pending their match against Atletico Madrid), but Ramos was not getting carried away.
"There are lot of games left and we will not give up. All we can do is win our games, and I am not concerned about the match at the Calderon," he said.
Finally, the former Sevilla coach looked ahead to his side's possibilities in the Champions League following Wednesday's home defeat to Rafael Benitez's Reds.
"It is a 180 minute game. We are a goal down, but just like they won in Madrid, we can win at Anfield," he said.
"It will be difficult, but we are capable of winning in any stadium."
