Manolo Jimenez: Sevilla Still Chasing Second Place

Los Nervionenses' impressive form continued on Saturday night, and the coach is hoping it will spur them on to greater things...

Sevilla boss Manolo Jimenez has praised his team for their win at Athletic Bilbao, as he turns his attention to the midweek clash against the same opponents.

Having defeated an under-strength side 2-1 at the San Mames this weekend, Sevilla will return on Wednesday, when they will look to protect a 2-1 lead from the first leg.

Speaking at the post-match press conference, Jimenez said, "We were thinking about today's match, not Wednesday's. We are an ambitious team who have not yet achieved our goal in the league."

That goal is to finish second, although Jimenez did make his comments before Real Madrid's win at Espanyol.

When asked what he thought about Joaquin Caparros' decision to rest several players for this match, Jimenez responded, "They are safe in the middle of the league. Their biggest game of the season is this Wednesday so his decision was understandable, although the side he put out was very fresh and competitive."

Finally, Jimenez looked ahead to the midweek clash: "The match will be very similar to tonight. We know Bilbao's strengths, and they are not going to make it easy for us."
