Djibril Cisse has dedicated his double for Panathinaikos in the Europa League against Roma on Thursday evening to France coach Raymond Domenech, stating to Canal+ in the aftermath of the game that he struck out of rage following his exclusion from the most recent Bleus squad.

‘Le Djib’ scored twice at the Stadio Olimpico as the Greeks caused something of a stir by eliminating the Giallorossi, and Cisse has revealed he was working off a unique type of fuel.

“I tell you honestly, it was [awful not to be called up],” he said. “I thought I had done a good enough job to at least be tried. My answer is what I did tonight. I hope my performance will be seen.”

Cisse, who has had a career punctuated by serious injury, is not about to give up on wearing the France jersey for the first time since 2008. “I am not there against Spain but we'll see at the end of the season,” he explained to L’Equipe. “I will not let go. I can assure you I'll blow this meter during the next two months.

“Knowing that the coach still thinks of me gives me even more hunger.”

Cisse has already registered 23 goals this season, which is his first in Greece since moving from Olympique de Marseille last summer.
